Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag has been a big hit for Ubisoft, with fans flocking to the Caribbean adventures of Edward Kenway and his pirate crew. Players can partake in many different quests in the game, such as hunting rare animals for crafting supplies. Another big sidequest in the game is tracking down and defeating the Legendary Ships found in the game. If you're looking to take down the ships and gain the rewards, here's a quick guide for the Legendary Ships sidequests.
Technically there are five ships players must take down, but two appear together, so players actually have four battles to win to complete the sidequest. Each legendary ship taken down by the player gives them $20,000. Legendary ships cannot be boarded, so they cannot be added to Edward's fleet. It is highly recommended that players acquire elite levels in armor, side cannons and rams just to hang with the legendary ships. Beating all the legendary ships will unlock the speed ram attack.
In the Navassa Zone the HMS Prince is awaiting players, and this ship is like a regular Man-of-War ship on steroids. The HMS Prince has high defense, and will use its speed and mortar attacks to keep the Jackdaw at a distance and pummel it. Players must get in close to the ship and use chains and ramming techniques in order to take it down.
The La Dama Negra is found in the Serranilla Zone, and the ship's specialty is mortar attacks that do not show the player where the bombs are targeted. This means players will have trouble dodging the mortars, so players must maneuver constantly when fighting the ship. Circling the ship using heavy cannons and constantly changing speeds helps throw the ship off, and it has a weak spot in the back. Getting in close and unloading on this area is the key to bringing it down.
The HMS Fearless and Royal Sovereign in the Eleuthera Zone can be difficult due to their ability to pin down players and unload their side cannons on the Jackdaw. The best way to deal with these ships is to focus on one, but do not destroy it before moving to the next. If one ship is destroyed then the remaining ship will focus on ramming the Jackdaw, so taking both to low, and then keeping one chained while ramming the other should take them down.
Finally, the El Impoluto in Dry Tortuga is the hardest ship to defeat in the game. It is hyper aggressive and has a powerful ramming attack, so players are encouraged to try and use chains and ramming while using cannons when it tries to gain distance from the Jackdaw. Using fire barrels when being chased also helps take down the ship and discourages it from ramming the Jackdaw into oblivion.
