It's a good day for Microsoft's mobile operating system as Windows Phone finally reached double-digit territory in the smartphone platform market share in the United Kingdom (U.K.).
According to the latest figures from Kantar Worldpanel, Microsoft's Windows Phone platform encountered an increase of 7.2 percentage points when comparing the three months ending in September 2012 and the same period in 2013.

For the three months ending in September this year, Windows Phone accounted for 11.4 percent of the smartphone operating system market share, which is up from 4.2 percent in 2012.
Windows Phone was also the sole mobile operating system to see an increase in the smartphone operating market share against Apple, BlackBerry, and Google's respective mobile platforms.
Despite Windows Phone's increase, it was no match to dethrone Apple's iOS and Google Android.
The Google smartphone platform maintained first place in the U.K. while suffering a 0.2 percent loss compared to the three months ending in September this year and the same period in 2012. Android finished September 2013 with 58.4 percent of the smartphone platform market share.
iOS maintained its second place position despite a one percentage point loss. The Apple smartphone platform garnered 27 percent of the market share by the end of September this year.
BlackBerry encountered the biggest decline when comparing the top four smartphone platforms Kantar Worldpanel provided. BlackBerry lost 5.4 percent points between the three months ending in September 2013 to the same period in 2012. By the end of September this year, BlackBerry achieved 3.1 percent of the market share, down from the 8.5 percent last year.
