Early rumors swirling about Samsung's 2014 lineup of flagship smartphones indicate the company will be making some huge changes in the coming year. The latest report indicates that the shooter on the rumored Samsung Galaxy S5 will take stills at an impressive 16 megapixels.
As usual, the tidbit comes from a Korean news outlet citing unnamed insiders. According to the report, Samsung has placed an order for 181 million 16-megapixel camera modules that will be used in the Galaxy S5 and subsequent major 2014 devices including the Galaxy Note 4.
Bear in mind, like all information about the Samsung Galaxy S5, everything is still rumor at this point. Samsung is still busy focusing on pushing its devices on consumers in 2013, so don't expect any official details about the next-gen flagship phone to leak out until 2014.
This isn't the first bit of speculation surrounding the Galaxy S5's camera. Reports indicate that Samsung might finally include optical image stabilization as part of the package.
The Galaxy S5 is also rumored to pack some serious firepower under the hood, with Samsung reportedly planning on sticking 4GB RAM under the hood. Samsung will also up the game by including a 64-bit processor, allowing the Galaxy S5 to go toe to toe with Apple's new A7 64-bit chip.
The Galaxy S5 should also introduce a new look and feel to the Galaxy lineup, as Samsung has been spotted shopping around for reliable metal casings in response to the backlash against the Galaxy S4 for sporting such a plastic exterior.
