Moto X News: Review of Release Dates for Phone Features Like Engraving, Wooden Backplates

The Motorola Moto X has been impressing tech fans and causal phone consumers alike with the phone's solid specs and highly customizable features, however, some of the device's promised customization options have now been delayed.

Originally, Motorola was reportedly going to allow users to engrave their name or a message on the back of the Moto X. However, before the phone was released to the general public, the feature was pulled, with the company citing quality concerns.

In addition to this feature, users were also supposed to be able to pick four different backplate options imitating different cuts of wood — Teak, Ebony, Rosewood and Bamboo — but since they were announced the new designs have disappeared.

However, a new leak by EVLeaks has shown that the wooden backplates may in fact be coming to the Moto X; the leak source's Twitter account released a photo of the MotoMaker site with the four wood options. All of the options are listed as coming soon, except for the Bamboo option, curiously enough. All the backplate options will be available on the website for an additional $50.

While it looks as though the wood backplate may be available soon, no word yet if the engraving feature will be coming to the phone. Perhaps Motorola is focusing on bringing the other features to the device and getting the phone out to service providers.

The Moto X was available for $199 at launch, but now most service providers are now offering the device for $99. Not all service providers have lowered the price, though. Verizon Wireless is still charging the original price.

For those looking to pick up a Moto X for the holidays, the phone is available from Verizon Wireless, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and US Cellular. However, so far only AT&T customers have the ability to use the MotoMaker website to design their own version of the phone, and everyone else must settle for white and black models of the device for now.
