Microsoft's Windows Phone platform saw an increase in the mobile operating system market share in the latest three months ending in September 2013, according to new figures released by Kantar Worldpanel.
Windows Phone saw an increase of 1.9 percentage points when comparing the three months ending in September 2013 to the same period in 2012 in the United States (U.S.). By the end of September this year, Windows Phone accounted for 4.6 percent of the U.S. smartphone market share.

Despite the increase, Microsoft could not dent the duopoly of Apple's iOS and Google Android. iOS and Google accounted for a total of 93.2 percent of the smartphone market share during the three months ending in September this year.
Android held the title for the highest smartphone market share in the U.S. by the end of September 2012 with 59.8 percent. The Google mobile platform, however, slipped by 2.5 percent by the time September 2013 concluded. The three months ending in September this year saw Android with 57.3 percent. Although Android fell by 2.5 percent, it still maintained the no. 1 position of top mobile operating system.
Unlike Android, iOS saw an increase in their smartphone market share. The Apple mobile operating system increased its market share by 1.3 percentage points. iOS maintained its second place position with 35.9 percent by the end of September this year.
For fourth place, BlackBerry holds the title once again. BlackBerry garnered one percent of the smartphone market share during the three months ending in September this year. The mobile platform encountered a drop of 1.2 percentage points from the 2.2 percent it received during the same period in 2012.
