Android 4.4 KitKat is officially out on the market, leaving many device owners wondering whether or not their phone or tablet will receive the latest version of the mobile operating system. HTC One X owners will be disappointed to know that their device will not get KitKat, according to one insider.
Well-known HTC modder and insider @LlabTooFeR made it clear that the HTC One X had outlived its support cycle and would not be getting Android 4.4, despite the fact that KitKat is optimized to run on older devices with as little as 512MB RAM.

The news will certainly sour HTC One X owners who were hoping to get a taste of KitKat, seeing as how "EOL" stands for "end of life." Of course, this is only the word of a tipster with an incredibly reliable track record — until HTC firms up its plans everything's still up in the air.
"Our priority will be updating the HTC One family. At this point, we're still working to determine whether and/or when we'll be updating other devices in our product portfolio," an HTC spokesperson told The Verge.
Still, there's still hope that one more update will land on the HTC One X. If previous reports hold true, then the device could still see Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, although it's little consolation. The upgrade is said to land in 2014 at the earliest, and Android 4.3 is not much of a change from previous Jelly Bean versions. Other than the usual performance-and-security enhancing tweaks, One X owners won't find the kind of new interface Android KitKat brings.
