Just one day after Google took the wraps off its brand new Android 4.4 KitKat operating system, Motorola has stepped up to the plate and announced a few devices that will be receiving an Android 4.4 update in the future. As expected, the Moto X is one of them.
A look at the Motorola update support page for the Moto X reveals that the "device will be upgraded to KitKat (Android 4.4)." No release date is mentioned, although Motorola does offer interested parties the option of signing up to an email list in order to receive information about software updates.
Motorola made the same confirmation for the Droid Ultra, Droid Maxx and Droid Mini as well. Like the Moto X scenario, no exact dates were provided.
A look at other manufacturers' Android 4.4 KitKat update plans could indicate that Motorola will push out the update before 2013 is over. Both HTC and Samsung are aggressively pursuing Android 4.4, and the new operating system is bound to be a selling point during the busy fall holiday shopping season. Still, until Motorola releases some more specifics, everything's speculation.
Android 4.4 KitKat is the biggest overhaul to the Android operating system since Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. KitKat places a special emphasis on Google Now, integrating the intelligent personal assistant into more functions than ever. If everything works out according to Google's plans, Google Now will properly display relevant information based on parameters such as location or time before it's even asked. KitKat also sports a more colorful, cleaner design, utilizing more of the screen than ever before.
