The Denver Broncos are reportedly interested in trading for Minnesota Vikings defensive end Jared Allen while the Kansas City Chiefs are keeping their eye on former tight end Tony Gonzalez, who could be dealt by the Atlanta Falcons before the 4 p.m Tuesday trade deadline.
Broncos Shows Interest in Jared Allen
The Broncos continued to add pieces to their already formidable defensive line. According to NFL Trade Rumors, Denver has shown interest in trading for Allen and his expiring contract, which is worth $7.5 million.
The 32-year-old Allen has been expected to be on the trading block, mainly because of his expiring contract and the Vikings' poor start this season.
After two consecutive lackluster performances by their defensive unit, the Broncos entered the Allen sweepstakes with the hope of further fortifying their defense.
The Seahawks have previously shown interest in getting Allen, but the franchise is not capable of freeing up enough cap space to accommodate the defensive end's contract.
The Broncos, on the other hand, may need to talk first with quarterback Peyton Manning before they free up cap space for Allen.
A four-time Pro Bowl defensive end, Allen recorded 4.5 sacks with 21 tackles this season. Throughout his 10-year NFL career, Allen has racked up 523 tackles and 121.5 sacks.
Chiefs Wants To Bring Gonzalez Home
The Kansas City Chiefs are reportedly looking very closely at the Tony Gonzalez situation. NFL Trade Rumors reported that the AFC West juggernaut is planning to bring back Gonzalez, who carved out a legendary football career in Kansas City.
In an interview with ESPN, Gonzalez said he's very much aware of the situation, though he never asked the Falcons to trade him to a contender.
"I totally understand it," Gonzalez told ESPN.com late Monday night. "Everybody out there needs to understand that I'm not naive to it. I see it, too. This is the last [nine] weeks of my career. And right now, things are looking ... you never know.
"But, like I said, I love my guys on this team too much to go ask for a trade. It would be something that would come from them where they said, 'Hey, it makes sense because we could get something good for you and send you to a team that's a contender.' So I understand the thought process behind that," he added.
Upon the arrival of Andy Reid and Alex Smith, the Chiefs emerged as a legitimate Super Bowl contender after winning their first eight games this season.
