It's still 2013, but that hasn't stopped rumors about 2014 smartphones from already hitting the technosphere. The latest? It looks like Samsung's next flagship device, the rumored Galaxy S5, will pack a serious 4GB of RAM under the hood alongside a brand new 64-bit processor.
It's recently come to light that Samsung has finalized production plans for a new 64-bit Exynos processor, and if one Korean news outlet is correct, this will be the engine under the hood for the Galaxy S5. Not only that, the next-gen handset will apparently also feature 4GB RAM, which is double the current industry standard among top-tier smartphones.
Of course, it's too early to tell, and Samsung has not yet commented on a matter so far away, but the move towards 64-bit processing and more RAM only seems natural given that Apple has kicked off the next step in the mobile arms race. The Cupertino giant's recently-released iPhone 5S and the new iPads all sport the A7 chip capable of 64-bit processing. Given that Apple is arguably Samsung's biggest rival, expect the South Korean electronics manufacturer to follow suit.
Other rumors swirling about the Galaxy S5 include mentions of a metal casing. Apparently Samsung will make every Samsung Galaxy S5 waterproof and dustproof out of the box, and the metal casing will serve to quell the complaints about the Galaxy S4's plastic exterior. Samsung is also rumored to be working on a Tizen variant of the Galaxy S5.
