Verizon Wireless isn't exactly a carrier known for its timely Android updates, but it looks like Big Red will get the jump on competitors when it comes to the Samsung Galaxy S4. In fact, the carrier has already stared pushing Premium Suite upgrade with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean for the Galaxy S4, giving the handset Galaxy Gear support in the process.
Samsung announced Monday that the new Premium Suite upgrade with Android 4.3 and Galaxy Gear compatibility should begin landing stateside. A Samsung support page reveals that Verizon Wireless Galaxy S4s were scheduled to receive the update Monday.
Reports indicate the update is currently rolling out over the air and Verizon Galaxy S4 owners should be able to snag firmware I545VRUEMJ7. According to Verizon, this patch brings Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, support for the Galaxy Gear smartwatch, Samsung's KNOX security suite, and Group Play 2.5 from the Galaxy Note 3. The upgrade will also enable Band 4 on the LTE spectrum, allowing for greater download speeds on Verizon's network.
It's unclear when other carriers will follow Verizon, although it shouldn't take much longer. The Galaxy S4 Premium Suite with Android 4.3 rollout is bound to have Verizon customers ecstatic since Verizon has usually been the last U.S. carrier to roll out an Android update, with T-Mobile, AT&T, and Sprint beating the nation's largest carrier by weeks and sometimes even months on a new patch.
Other Samsung devices such as the Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3 are also scheduled to begin receiving their Premium Suite with Android 4.3 upgrade in November.
