Sony Xperia Z1 owners can now snag a new firmware off the air that will drastically improve the picture quality on the recently-released smartphone.

Interested Xperia Z1 owners should be able to snag firmware 14.1.G.1.534 off the air, although it's important to remember that over-the-air rollouts tend to happen in batches so not everybody can download it at once.

While little is usually known about these Sony firmwares, one XDA Developers member took the time to post the following shots comparing pictures taken with firmware 14.1.G.1.534 versus the older 14.1.G.1.257.

"These pictures were taken with both firmwares about 8 minutes apart (updated in the park) on the same phone and in roughly the same light. I would have been faster but there was a Dutch family taking pictures and I didn't want to have them in the picture," writes jluster in the XDA Developer forums.

Jluster states that the photographs were taken manual, with no scene, no EV, no processing, and under the 8-megapixel 4:3 format.

The update isn't exactly a major Android upgrade, but if rumors around the technosphere are true, then it won't be long before Xperia Z1s get a brand new version of Android to play with. According to several reports, the Xperia Z1 is tipped to receive Android 4.4 KitKat sometime in November. If it does so, it will become one of the first high-profile handsets to be upgraded to Android 4.4 KitKat.
