It's still 2013, and the Samsung Galaxy S4 is still at the cutting edge of its market, but that hasn't stopped the rumor mill from already beginning to churn about the flagships successor. While nothing is really official, it looks like the Galaxy S5 (if that is its name) will feature 64-bit support much like the recently-released iPhone 5S.
It seems that Samsung has overcome some of the last major hurdles facing the mass production of its latest 64-bit Exynos chip. According to Korean news outlet ITToday, this will be the chip that the Galaxy S5 employs.
This isn't the first time that we've heard of Samsung looking towards 64-bit chipsets for its flagship devices. Apple recently released the iPhone 5S with a 64-bit processor onboard, kickstarting plenty of speculation that the rest of the industry will soon follow. Samsung, a prolific chipmaker on its own, is known to be developing its own counter.
Other early rumors about the Samsung Galaxy S5 have mostly to do with its construction and release. Samsung received plenty of flak for the Galaxy S4's plastic casing, and while it has made improvements seen in the Galaxy Note 3's design, it's said the South Korean electronics manufacturer will encase the Galaxy S5 in metal, bringing it more in line with the iPhone and HTC One. Also, while it's highly unlikely, some rumors peg the Galaxy S5's announcement as early as January 2014 due to sagging Galaxy S4 sales.
