Another day, another Android update. This time, the lucky recipient of Android 4.3 Jelly Bean is the Samsung Galaxy S4 model SHV-E300K, normally found in Korea.
The update should be rolling out over the air, and as usual, some will get it before others. Android 4.3 Jelly Bean is the first major Android upgrade for the Galaxy S4, and while Samsung has not released an official changelog, well-known Samsung-centric website SamMobile has compiled the following changes based on their time with the new build.
"- TRIM Support (Makes the device much faster)
- ANT+ Support
- Samsung KNOX Implementation (KNOX bootloader and dedicated application)
- Samsung Wallet comes pre-loaded
- Improved RAM management
- Improved Display color reproduction (Display looks much sharper than before)
- Improved TouchWiz Launcher (Much less launcher redraws and less lag)
- New Samsung Keyboard
- New Samsung Browser (Full screen by default, new tab interface and more)
- New Reading Mode (Optimizes display for reading, used by only a few specific applications)
- New Camera firmware
- Minor UI tweaks (Contacts app, Flashlight Widget, dialog boxes etc)"
SamMobile also states that Android 4.3 improves system performance by almost 20 percent according to AnTuTu benchmark results.
The update is also rolling out to several other Galaxy S4 models including the LTE and non-LTE international variants. Galaxy S4 owners in the United States, however, can expect to wait a little longer. Carriers such as AT&T and Verizon have to approve and custom tailor the update for their specific Galaxy S4s, adding weeks and even months to the process sometimes. Still, the update should land Stateside on most major carriers before 2013 is over.
