The iPad 5 is expected to maintain its 9.7-inch Retina Display screen but have improved resolution numbers compared to the 2,048x1,536 pixels on the iPad 4.
When it comes to storage, Apple will likely maintain to tradition and offer 16GB, 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB internal storage models. The iPad 4 offers the same internal storage memory models at 1GB of RAM, but the iPad 5 could see the introduction of 2GB of RAM.
Wireless connectivity is subjected to be the same with Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth, and USB version 2.0, as seen in the iPad 4. NFC rumors have been mute for the fifth-generation 9.7-inch tablet, therefore Apple fans shouldn't wait on the edge of their seats for its unlikely announcement.
One of the most obvious specifications for the iPad 5 is the Apple mobile operating system in the tablet. Apple released iOS 7 on Sept. 18, and future iPad 5 owners will see the latest Apple mobile platform on their tablets. iPad 4 launched with the then-new iOS 6. The iPad 4 is upgradable to the iOS 7.
In regards to the chipset and processor, the iPad 4 utilizes the Apple A6X dual-core 1.4GHz processor, while the iPad 5 is expected to have the 64-big A7X processor, according to KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, via 9to5Mac.
Unlike the 5-megapixel rear-facing camera on the iPad 4, the iPad 5 is speculated to sport 8 megapixels as seen in the iPhone 5s and with a larger aperture.
The KGI Securities analyst added that iPad 5 will be 20 percent lighter and thinner than the current iPad with Retina Display (iPad 4). With the slim down of the iPad, the tablet may be around 7.5mm and weigh 500 grams.
Apple confirmed an Oct. 22 event will take place from the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, Calif., but the Cupertino-based organization didn't specify its purpose. Apple's Oct. 22 event starts at 1 p.m. EST.
