Google Nexus 5 Release Date Update: White Variant "Leak" a Fraud (Photo, Price, and Specs)

For those of you getting your hopes up for a gleaming white variant of Google's new flagship Nexus 5, you're about to be disappointed.

The Google Nexus 5 "leaked" image, showing an all-white device is bogus, according to Android Poilce, via PhoneArena. As Latinos Post previously reported, CtechCN's supposed white Nexus 5 photo seemed a bit off from what has been seen of the white Nexus 5 before. Packaging for the handset which has been floating around the rumorsphere for a bit showed that the white Nexus 5 had a black front and a white back.

So we were suspicious that the all-white Nexus 5 could be a photoshop job, and we were right. Android Police looked into it, noting that the highlights on the white Nexus 5 seemed to be the exact opposite of the black handset. Just to prove the point, they produced an almost-identical white Nexus 5 image with inverted colors and slight tone adjustments, and put it together in a playful Gif on their site.

They also created some fun, multi-colored renders of a possible Moto X-type customizable Nexus 5, which would be cool, but probably won't happen in this universe.

Despite the phony phone render, there are still details about the Nexus 5 which are probably pretty reliable. After many leaks about the handset, we know the Google Nexus 5 will probably feature a 4.96-inch Full HD 1080p display, running on a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, likely clocked at 2GHz or above. The phone should come with 2GB of RAM, LTE capability, and either an 8-megapixel or 13-megapixel main camera.

The 16GB Google Nexus 5 leaked on the Google Play Store, revealing a $349 price for that model. Rumors put the 32GB Nexus 5 at more than $400. We're expecting an unveil soon, along with the new Android 4.4 KitKat, though there has been debate about when it will happen. We're putting our money on Oct. 28.
