It wouldn't be Microsoft if the company didn't have some sort of issue with the rollout of its new update to Windows. This time it's the Windows RT 8.1, which has been pulled from Microsoft due to a "situation" which is affecting some users.
Microsoft's Windows RT update was scheduled to be available at the same time Windwos 8.1 became available for download. But after some issues began cropping up for some RT users, especially with the first Surface RT tablets, the Redmond Washington giant pulled the update.
Here's the statement given on Microsoft's Answer website in regard to why the Windows RT 8.1 update had been pulled.
Windows RT 8.1. Microsoft is investigating a situation affecting a limited number of users updating their Windows RT devices to Windows RT 8.1. As a result, we have temporarily removed the Windows RT 8.1 update from the Windows Store. We are working to resolve the situation as quickly as possible and apologize for any inconvenience. We will provide updates as they become available.
One of those users was Mashable's Editor in Chief, who experienced that "situation" in the form of the Windows RT 8.1 update cooking his computer and necessitating a complete repair and reboot.

According to PC World, if you downloaded the Windows RT 8.1 update before it was taken off the digital shelves, and are concerned about what it might do to your RT machine, there are a couple steps you can take to protect yourself. You will need a USB recovery boot drive for your tablet or you'll need to make one using a non-updated version of Windows RT. Or you can cross your fingers, and hope that Microsoft is on it and will plop out an update soon enough.
