Mexican filmmaker Alfonso Cuarón visited Mexico City on Wednesday, October 16 to tell the press about his latest film, "Gravity", which premieres in Mexican cinemas this week.
However, the successful science-fiction movie that has broken records in the US wasn't the subject that has garnered the most attention in Mexican media, but rather a curious question made by one of the reporters that were present at the event.
During the press conference offered by the director, the question from a reporter from Mexican network TV Azteca surprised many at first, and then caused much laughter from other members of the press.
Carlos Pérez, TV Azteca reporter, asked the Mexican director "What were the technical difficulties... and perhaps human... of filming in space? Was it hard? Was it complicated to film in space? Did cameramen get dizzy?", leaving other reporters appalled, who didn't know if it was a joke or not.
A video recorded from a cellphone, which has gotten thousands of views a few hours after being uploaded to YouTube, shows the moment when a bewildered Cuarón scratches his head and, after not knowing what to say, decides to make use of his sense of humor and answers the question as if he had really filmed the movie in outer space, but without pointing out his error to the reporter.
"Well, yeah, we got some cameras on the Russian Soyuz missions. We were up there for three months a half... I was very bad at training, I got dizzy, but when I got up there I didn't anymore. "Chivo" (Emmanuel Lubezki, photographer and film producer who participated in Cuarón's 'Gravity') did" replied Cuarón, which caused more laughter among reporters.
According to El Universal, Carlos Pérez is the reporter for TV Azteca's show "Deberían Estar Trabajando".
