'Gravity' Scribe Jonas Cuaron to Write 'The Lost City' For Warner Bros.

Jonas Cuaron has signed on to write "The Lost City" for Warner Bros.

According to Variety the studio was looking for a new film that Cuaron could write. "Warner was looking for the next project on which to reteam with Cuaron, and saw this film as a great possibility. Cuaron had been the choice for some time, but had to first figure out scheduling with his next directing assignment, 'Desierto,'" reported Variety. 

The studio has kept plot details with Lynn Harris overseeing the movie. Akiva Goldsman ("A Beautiful Mind") is slated to produce through his company Weed Road Pictures with Torry Tunnell and Joby Harold ("Awake") from Safehouse Pictures.

Warner Bros. has not announced who will direct the film but an announcement should arrive soon. 

Cuaron recently wrote the successful film "Gravity" with his father Alfonso Cuaron. Jonas Cuaron previously wrote and directed a documentary, "The Shock Doctrine," and an award-winning short film "Year of the Nail." He will next direct "Desierto," which is slated to star Gael Garcia Bernal. The film will be produced by his father and his uncle Carlos Cuaron as well as Alex Garcia.

"Gravity" has become the breakout film of the year having already made $136 million at the U.S. box office and $204 million worldwide. The film also became the best reviewed film of 2013 and is already garnering Oscar buzz. "Gravity" tells the story of a medical engineer and an astronaut who work together to survive after an accident leaves them adrift in space.
