Bad news Nexus 5 fans: the smartphone could end up costing $100 more than previously anticipated. A new report reveals that the Nexus 5 could start at $399 due to the incoming launch of a Google Nexus 4 LTE model.
Website Android Geeks recently published a report in which "a source close to the Mountain View-based giant who wished to remain anonymous" revealed that the Nexus 5 would be costlier than the Nexus 4. According to the source, the 16GB Nexus 5 will retail for $399 and the 32GB for $449. These prices are $100 higher than a previous rumor that stated the 16GB variant would be $299 and the 32GB would be $349.
The reason behind the price hike (the Nexus 4 was $299 and $349 depending on how much storage one opted for) is because Google also apparently gearing up to release an LTE model of the Nexus 4 smartphone. The Google Nexus 4, released in 2012, has been one of the Nexus devices' top successes, but drew criticism for not supporting LTE. If the report is correct, then Nexus 4 enthusiasts will be able to grab a 16GB model for $299 and a 32GB for $349.
Google has not confirmed anything regarding the Nexus 5, so be sure to take it with a grain of salt. Google is expected to announce the Nexus 5 alongside Android 4.4 KitKat before the end of October, so it shouldn't be too long before the nitty gritty is finally out.
The Nexus 5 is rumored to come equipped with a 5-inch 1080p display, a 2.3GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB RAM, and the powerful Adreno 330 GPU capable of Open GL 3.0.
