Google's mobile operating system resumed its dominance in Italy as the only smartphone platform to increase its market share.
Based on the latest figures provided by Kantar Worldpanel, Google's Android smartphone operating system saw a double-digit increase during the three months ending in August 2013 compared to the same period last year.

Android finished the three months ending in August this year with 71.6 percent, which is a 13 percent increase from the 58.6 percent it garnered by the end of August 2012.
Apple's iOS, BlackBerry, and Microsoft's Windows Phone, however, saw minor declines in their smartphone operating system market share.
iOS maintained second place in the Italian smartphone operating system market share in Italy. iOS finished August this year with 14.4 percent. The percentage for the Apple mobile platform is 0.6 percent down from 15 percent during the three months ending in August 2012.
Windows Phone kept its third place finish with 9.5 percent of the market share. The Microsoft smartphone platform dipped by 0.8 percent compared to the 10.3 percent it achieved by the end of August 2012.
BlackBerry encountered the highest market share loss among the mobile operating systems provided by Kantar Worldpanel. BlackBerry fell by 1.8 percent during the three months ending in August 2013 compared to the same period last year. BlackBerry accounted for 2.1 percent by the end of August this year.
