The Samsung Galaxy S4 is set to receive Android 4.3 Jelly Bean sometime over the next couple weeks, but Verizon Wireless has already rolled out a small patch ahead of the big bump.
Verizon Samsung Galaxy S4 owners should be able to snag the new firmware through Verizon's Software Upgrade Assistant desktop software. It's unclear at the moment if Verizon is pushing out the firmware, which changes the firmware from build VRUAME7 to VRUDMI1, over the air. Bear in mind this only applies to the Verizon Samsung Galaxy S4 model SCH-I545.
Sadly, the patch won't change the Android version from 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. Instead, although details are scarce, the firmware most likely includes the usual security and bug fixes. Nothing special, but it shouldn't be long before the Android 4.3 arrives.
Samsung announced in early September that the company would release Android 4.3 for the Galaxy S4 before October is over, and it looks like the company is on track. Recent insider information reveals that Samsung could roll out the update within a week. The time frame mostly applies to international models, and Galaxy S4 owners with network-tied devices, such as those with AT&T or Verizon, will most likely have to wait a few extra weeks for carrier approval and distribution.
For those who can't wait, a new near-final build of the Samsung Galaxy S4 Android 4.3 firmware recently leaked onto the Internet and is available for download.
