Samsung might be the first major international player in the smartwatch market (sorry Sony), but it looks like others won't be far behind. If recent rumors are correct, then Google could be launching a Nexus-branded smartwatch of its own in October.

While it hasn't been confirmed, Google has been linked to a smartwatch project multiple times in the past. New information from insiders seems to lend backing to the fact that Google will probably unveil a smartwatch alongside the Nexus 5 smartphone and Android 4.4 KitKat. Both are expected to be announced sometime in mid-to-late October and reach consumer hands before November hits.

According to a 9to5Google report, Oct. 31 could be the date that Google announces the Nexus smartwatch, Nexus 5, and Android 4.4 KitKat. Once again, Google hasn't commented on the matter, but we have heard whispers of a Google event happening soon — before shoppers set off on their holiday buying sprees. The Mountain View giant still has to dish out the gritty on Android 4.4, and many customers are expecting some new Nexus-branded products to play with.

Little is known about the potential Nexus smartwatch. All that's certain is that it will propagate Google services, such as Google Now and Gmail, heavily. It's not certain if it will run the Android operating system, but expect enough coding built in to make sure the Nexus smartwatch can intuitively interact with Google's mobile operating system.

Both Sony and Samsung have Android-compatible smartwatches out on the market, and rival Apple is rumored to have an iWatch in the works.
