If you bought yourself a shiny new Google Nexus 7 tablet, you're probably looking for ways to get the most out of the tablet. Here's the top apps for connecting with those around you and making your Nexus 7 your hub for feeding the world your views and pictures. The best part, they're all free!

Google+: The Google+ app has been optimized for the Nexus 7 screen, making it a pleasure to use. A neat sidebar and a streamlined interface puts all the features at your fingertips. If you're using Android, and are tied into your Google accounts, this app just makes social networking with Google's system a lot easier. Download it here.

Tweetcaster: The Twitter app is fine, but Tweetcaster is better. This allows for more customizable searches and better content filters. No brainer here, pick up Tweetcaster instead of the official Twitter. Download it here.

Friendcaster: Facebook has come under fire for not being mobile friendly, and here's evidence. The Facebook app for the Nexus 7 is rudimentary and uninspired. Many people prefer Friendcaster, which can install a widget on your home screen for a real-time feed. Download it here. (Keep in mind there are reports of some issues on the Nexus 7 after the last update, including a blank newsfeed. I'm sure Friendcaster developers will have that fixed up soon)

IM+: This instant messaging app does it all. IM+ combines your Facebook, Google Talk, Yahoo! IDs and more into one convenient place. If you're a fan of instant messaging, this is a must-have app on the Nexus 7. Download it here.

Instagram: The popular photo sharing app recently got an update that also optimized it for the Nexus 7. You can use the front-facing 1.2-megapixel camera to take self-portraits and shoot them out to all your friends. For photo sharing, this is the way to go, since most of your friends are probably using it anyways. Download it here.
