Another day, another tidbit about the as-of-yet-unannounced Google Nexus 5 smartphone. The latest morsel indicates that Google will be revealing the handset in all its glory Oct. 15 as originally rumored.
The date, which has popped up in previous reports, comes to us via CNET UK, which claims that Oct. 15 is the talk around the water cooler at Google Launchpad, an event designed to help start-ups. Not only that, CNET UK states that Android 4.4 KitKat will also be shown off alongside the Nexus 5, lending credence to the earlier round of rumors.
Of course, Google has confirmed nothing, so it's still better to ingest this piece of information with a healthy dose of salt. Some reports claim that Google will hold the Nexus 5/Android 4.4 KitKat event later in October, but one thing is almost certain: the Mountain View giant should release the smartphone before the end of October.
Despite there having been no official announcements regarding the Nexus 5, leaks from all over have essentially uncovered most of the details about the smartphone. The general consensus is that the Nexus 5 will feature a 4.96-inch 1080p Full HD display, a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor clocked at over 2GHz, and a powerful Adreno 330 GPU capable of supporting Open GL 3.0. The phone should also come equipped with 2GB RAM, an 8-or-13-megapixel rear-facing camera, and LTE connectivity.
Pricing for the phone is expected to be similar to previous Nexus models. According to a recent tip, the 16GB Nexus 5 will retail for $299, and the 32GB Nexus 5 with a more powerful battery will cost $399.
