Microsoft's Windows Phone has reached double digits in the smartphone operating system market share in the United Kingdom.
According to figures provided by Kantar Worldpanel, Windows Phone saw an increase of 7.5 percent when comparing the three months ending in August 2013 to the same period last year.

By the end of August 2013, Windows Phone accounted for 12 percent of the market share, up from the same period in 2012 when the Microsoft platform received 4.5 percent.
Despite the improved numbers for Windows Phone, the Microsoft mobile operating system placed third in Kantar Worldpanel's rankings.
The mobile operating system to finish on top was Google's Android. The Google mobile operating system accounted for 56.3 percent of the smartphone platform market for the three months ending in August 2013, which represents a 6.4 percent market share loss from last year.
Apple's iOS placed second with 27.5 percent of the market. iOS saw an increase of 6.1 percent from the three months ending in August 2012 when the Apple mobile platform garnered 21.4 percent.
Rounding out the top four was BlackBerry, which tied Android with the largest share loss with 6.4 percent. BlackBerry finished the three months ending in August 2013 with 3.7 percent, down from the 10.1 percent during the same period last year.
