HTC One Android 4.3 Update: AT&T Release Date Arrives as Firmware Rolls Out

AT&T HTC owners are now proud recipients of Android 4.3 Jelly Bean as the nation's second largest carrier is officially pushing the firmware out over the air.

HTC America president Jason Mackenzie revealed on Twitter that AT&T started releasing the HTC One Android 4.3 update Tuesday, Oct. 8, just as promised.

The update should be rolling out over the air for most users, but as is the norm with over-the-air releases, not everybody will get it at the same time. Interested parties can manually check for the update by going to Settings > About Phone > System updates. Be sure to have the battery charged and tethered to a Wi-Fi network.

The update was expected to land by the end of September, but HTC soon revealed that carrier certification was taking a little longer than expected. Sprint released its HTC One Android 4.3 update earlier, on Oct. 3. T-Mobile is expected to be next in line, with Verizon (once again) coming in last, near the end of October.

Users can "expect to see launcher bar enhancements, a widget lock screen style, home button behavior modification (remove black menu bar from screen), advanced notifications, ability to display battery level percentage in the notification bar, quick settings, 6 new Video Highlights themes with custom music options, improved Zoe file management and more," according to HTC Source.

While AT&T HTC One owners will jump from Android 4.1 to Android 4.3, the upgrade does come at a cost: there's no new version of Sense. This applies to all American HTC Ones. Some regions, such as Europe and parts of Asia, will get Android 4.3 Jelly Bean later, sometime in November, but with the newer Sense 5.5. Americans will simply have to wait for the new Sense to arrive in a later update.
