For a long time, the only Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0s that were upgraded to Android 4.2.2 were LTE. Now, almost two months later, Samsung has finally finished the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update cycle for the Galaxy Note 8.0 tablet by releasing the upgrade for the Wi-Fi-only variant.
The update applies to the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 model GT-N5110 and began sporadically appearing on the scene a few weeks ago. It seems that Samsung has finally got its ducks in a row and has now commenced with a larger-scale rollout, allowing users in many regions to snag the upgrade over the air or through the Samsung KIES software. The firmware does weigh in at a hefty 660MB, so be sure to have the tablet charged.
Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 Wi-Fi-only owners who haven't received a notification about the Android 4.2.2 update can go ahead and check manually by going to Settings > About > System updates.
The firmware contains the usual security and performance enhancements, and will finally give Galaxy Note 8.0 owners a taste of lockscreen widgets, the Daydream screensaver mode, dedicated toggles page, and more.
There isn't much information on when the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 will receive the next major Android update. Samsung announced in early September that it was refocusing its efforts away from Android 4.2.2 to Android 4.3 on many of its popular devices (including the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2) in order to roll out Android 4.3 by the end of the year. The reason, presumably, is because Android 4.3 contains Bluetooth 4.0 LE support, which is required for connectivity with the Galaxy Gear smartwatch.
