Despite the first place position, the Google mobile platform lost 0.8 percent from the three months ending in May earlier this year.

Apple's iOS, meanwhile, saw an increase in its market share: comScore noted iOS finished second with 40.7 percent of the market. The second place position comes as the Apple mobile platform increased by 1.5 percent when comparing to the three months ending in May 2013.

BlackBerry narrowly edged out Microsoft's Windows Phone for third place.

BlackBerry finished the three months ending in August this year with 4 percent of the market, which came with a 0.8 percent drop from the three months ending in May 2013.

Windows Phone achieved 3.2 percent of the mobile operating system market for the three months ending in August 2013. The fourth-place finish, unlike Android and BlackBerry, saw the Microsoft smartphone platform increase its market share numbers by 0.2 percent.

Symbian rounded up the top five with 0.3 percent, a 0.1 loss from the three months ending in May 2013.

Overall, the strength between Android and iOS hit a new high as the two mobile operating systems represented 92.3 percent of the entire market share, which is a consecutive new high based on comScore's figures.
