The next generation of Apple tablets may see an improvement of the device's camera specifications.
According to KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the iPad 5 and iPad mini 2 will have a rear-facing camera with 8 megapixels and a larger aperture.
Currently, the iPad 4 and iPad mini have a rear-facing camera with 5 megapixels with an f/2.4 aperture.

"As the tablet market becomes increasingly competitive, Apple could upgrade the camera as a selling point for the new iPad in a bid to increase competitiveness," Kuo stated. "We expect the upgrade will include 8MP rear camera, up from 5MP, and larger aperture. Lens module ASP will rise 10-20 [percent] on this optics spec upgrade."
Kuo added that the iPad 5 and iPad mini 2 could launch during the fourth quarter of 2013.
As Latinos Post reported, IHS iSuppli stated its supply chain checks have the iPad 5 tablet on track for an October launch date. The iPad mini 2, however, is "not yet at levels that would indicative of a simultaneous release."
In regards to other potential iPad 5 features, the iPad 5 is expected to have design similar to the iPad mini. The Wall Street Journal reported Apple will use the same touch-panel technology seen on the iPad mini for the iPad 5.
Apple has been facing tougher tablet competition as its market share is down considerably when comparing the second quarter of 2013 to the same period last year. Based on the International Data Corporation's (IDC) figures, Apple finished the second quarter this year with 32.4 percent of the market share, which is down from 2012's 60.3 percent.
