The popular resort of Acapulco, which is in the Mexican state of Guerrero, is widely known for its tourist attraction, but in recent weeks, it was affected by hurricanes "Ingrid" and "Manuel" in a span of 24 hours. Approximately 40,000 tourists were stranded in their hotels, while the Acapulco International Airport suspended all operations and highways were closed due to flooding.
According to the Spanish newspaper El País, Guerrero was the most affected state by this severe weather. The southern Mexican state had 50 percent of the total death toll in the country, and the highest number of missing persons, 68 in total, whose whereabouts remain unknown.
Angel Aguirre, Governor of Guerrero, stated to Mexican network Televisa that the material damages were estimated at 5,000 million pesos ($387 million). Acapulco and the state of Guerrero were declared as disaster zones, with approximately 200,000 people affected.
