It wasn't too long ago that we began hearing whispers of an upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 3 model equipped with a flexible display. Well folks, according to one Samsung representative, the South Korean electronics manufacturer is aiming to do just that in October with the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Active.
It seems that a Samsung Electronics representative has confirmed with news outlet Asian Dail that Samsung will be releasing a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Active with a flexible display in the next month. Samsung will utilize its YOUM flexible OLED display technology, which uses four layers instead of the traditional six that LCD screens use. Flexible displays don't mean the phone will be bendable, but they can withstand far more punishment than traditional glass.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Active will also reportedly come housed in a metal casing and be waterproof. The report also states that a cheaper Galaxy Note 3 model (much like the iPhone 5c to the iPhone 5s) will hit shelves aimed at budget-minded consumers.
Samsung has not officially commented on the issue, so it'll have to be taken as rumor for now. Still, Samsung is known for releasing many variants of its flagship phones, and given the emphasis the company put on the Galaxy S4 Active, it's easy to see it happening again with the Samsung Galaxy Note 3.
The normal Samsung Galaxy Note 3 will release through AT&T Oct. 1; T-Mobile Oct. 2; Sprint Oct. 4; and Verizon Oct. 10. The handset sports a 5.7-inch 1080p Full HD display, a 2.3GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage. The rear-facing camera is 13 megapixels and the front-facing shooter stands in at a respectable 1.9 megapixels. The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 comes with LTE connectivity, Android 4.3, and the brand new S Pen electronic stylus right out of the box.
