A Massachusetts couple was sentenced to imprisonment on Monday, Sept. 23, after they were found guilty last month of the rape of their two adopted children.
The guilty parties are Joseph Mayote, 50 years old, and his wife, Linda Mayotte, 49. The couple is accused of raping a 13-year-old girl and a 15-year-old minor, reported CNN.
According to the same source, a press release issued by Prosecutor Joseph D. Early Jr. states that Joseph Mayotte sexually abused his adopted daughter for 5 years, starting when the girl was just 8 years old.
The 50-year-old man was sentenced last August for 11 charges, among which are aggravated sexual abuse of a minor, worsened by the age difference, and received a sentence of 16 to 20 years in jail.
Linda Mayotte was found guilty of 19 charges and was sentenced to 18 to 22 years in prison.
Paul Jarvey, from the office of the district's attorney of Worcester County in Massachusetts told CNN that the 49-year-old woman got pregnant from having sexual relations with her adopted son when he was just 15 years old. The adopted son is now 21 years old.
The couple, who were arrested in 2009, lived in Northbridge. Both adopted children and the child Linda Mayotte gave birth to were put under state custody and then adopted by other families.
"Their trust was violated by these two predators. Justice has been made," stated the attorney's statement on Sept. 23 to the court, as quoted by CNN.
