Colombian singer Juan Esteban Aristizabal, better known as Juanes, opened up in an interview with Mario López for his show "One on One," which will be broadcasted on Tuesday, Sept. 24, at 10 p.m. EST on NUVOtv.
One of the subjects of the interview is Juanes' past and how violence in his home country, Colombia, affected his life choices.
According to promotional videos quoted by People en Español, Juanes experienced violence at an early age in Colombia. When he was 15, the Colombian singer suffered the death of one of his friends during a shoot-out in Medellín that left 19 people dead.
To Juanes, violence in his country is something that has affected everyone, and they have had to deal with the consequences of these regrettable acts and that, in his case, music helped him escape that reality and focus on his true career and passion.
In another emotive moment, the Colombian shared the relationship he had with his father, remembering an argument they had while in a car. The popular singer remembered that his father did not like long hair, which was why they argued. Eight days later, his father died, a victim of cancer.
"Every day I pray, meditate and think of him", says the singer in the promotional video.
The 41-year-old Juanes also told Mario López that he is very proud of his country's culture and is pleased to see that Latino culture is reaching more places in the world.
