Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Release Date: October Could Bring a Flexible Display Variant

When speculation about the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 first started piling up, a lot of it was centered on the display. Samsung was rumored to be interested in equipping the Galaxy Note 3 with a flexible display, and while Samsung dispelled that tidbit with the official announcement of the Galaxy Note 3 in early September, it looks like Samsung may release a limited-edition flexible display variant of the Galaxy Note 3 in the near future.

Korean news outlet Chosun reports that Samsung will aim to launch a Galaxy Note 3 with a flexible display sometime in October. The publication cites no specific sources and Samsung hasn't hinted at these plans, so it's safe you should take this report with a healthy helping of salt. This flexible display Galaxy Note 3 will apparently be produced in limited quantities, making this a unique variant that (if it is true) will probably be used to test the public's interest in flexible displays.

Flexible displays have become a new standard to strive for in the smartphone market as manufacturers are looking for new ways to give their products the edge. Flexible displays don't mean that you will be able to bend your phone completely (that will require the complementary flexible hardware components), but they hold up to scratching and damage much better than standard displays. Both Samsung and LG have been fighting to be the first company to release a phone with a flexible display, and the lack of one on LG's newly-announced Vu 3 smartphone opens up the door for Samsung.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 will begin releasing in the United States at the beginning of October.
