Samsung Galaxy S4s around the world are slated to receive Android 4.3 in October, but the South Korean electronics manufacturer is already pushing out an update that preps the device for Samsung's KNOX security suite.
The update is currently rolling out over the air for the Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-I9505 model. The update should be downloadable through Samsung's KIES computer software, but expect some regions to receive it over the air as well. There aren't many details on what the new firmware entails, but it has been discovered that it contains some requisite files to ready the system for KNOX.
KNOX is Samsung's way of offering business enterprise-like security to all consumers so that they may effectively utilize their devices for both personal and professional use.
"Samsung KNOX addresses platform security with a comprehensive three-pronged strategy to secure the system: Customizable Secure Boot*, ARM® TrustZone®-based Integrity Measurement Architecture (TIMA), and a kernel with built-in Security Enhancements for Android (SE for Android) access controls," explains the Samsung KNOX website.
KNOX effectively runs Android in its own private "container" in the mobile device. The container comes replete with its own home screen, launcher, and more, allowing the user to separate home and work profiles so that employers can feel at ease participating in BYOD.
Samsung has not announced an official release date for the Galaxy S4 KNOX software, although some expect it to roll out alongside Android 4.3 Jelly Bean in October. Earlier in September, Samsung promised that it would release Android 4.3 for the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S3 sometime in October.
Let us know if you've received the newly-released patch for the Galaxy S4 and if you notice any improvements other than the KNOX software prep in the comments section below.
