Sony's new flagship handset, the Xperia Z1, has barely been out of the gates, but keeping in line with its promise to ensure the Xperia lineup is consistantly updated, Sony has already released the first firmware update for the smartphone.

The update will change the firmware 14.1.G.1.518 to 14.1.G.1.531 and doesn't seem to contain any major improvements. Instead, most users are reporting that the update simply addresses some bugs that came to light after the phone's launch. As of now, the 14.1.G.1.531 update seems to only be rolling out over the air in India for the HSPA+ C6902 Xperia Z1, although a wider release in more countries should come imminently. Like all over-the-air patches, 14.1.G.1.531 won't land on all Xperia Z1s simultaneously, and will instead be pushed out in batches, meaning some will get it before others. Bear in mind the update does not change the Android version currently running on the phone.

The Xperia Z1 is the latest in Sony's attempts to inject some life into the smartphone wars with a physical design that's hard to beat. With a 5-inch 1080p display, 2.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm processor, 2GB RAM and 16GB internal memory, the Xperia Z1 is no slouch in the specs department, but it's the phone's unique design elements that really make it stand out.

For starters, the camera can take stills at a whopping 20.7 megapixels. Sony has built in new functions into the interface allowing for more seamless integration of pictures and videos, including a live-streaming option that allows users to have their friends comment on the video in real time. The phone is also waterproof and dustproof - a hallmark introduced by the Xperia Z in early 2013.
