Microsoft has made a big deal out of showing off the Xbox One's voice and gesture recognition technology and the features on the new Kinect, which comes standard with the console, but the company's not alone in its ambitions. Now, Sony is stepping onto Microsoft's turf. The company announced at the Tokyo Game Show that purchases of its PlayStation Camera will come with the same sort of features available on the Kinect.
During its keynote speech at the biggest trade show in Japan, Sony revealed the new features to users that were generally assumed to be part of the PlayStation Camera's package. The device will have dual cameras and four microphones for users to use in a variety of games as well as navigating menus and features found on the next-gen consoles, according to Engadget.
Obviously, the news benefits users who want to capture their own videos based off their exploits on the PlayStation 4. Users will be able to stop and start their videos with their voice, and capture their own reactions to games with the PlayStation Camera. This news, combined with the fact that Sony will now allow video capture through the HDMI on the PlayStation 4, should make users very happy who specialize in video game reviews and walkthroughs. The new features will let players use the PlayStation Camera in conjunction with the PlayStation 4's DVR to record their footage without having to fuss with extra component cables, and then use the share button found on the console's controller to publish the footage. It will be interesting to see how many users choose to buy the PlayStation 4 Camera and take advantage of the features, or if they don't pay extra to have the features standard on the Xbox One in many countries.
The PlayStation 4 will be available on Nov. 15, and gamers are eager to get a hold of the next-gen console. The main competition for the PlayStation 4, the Xbox One, will launch one week later on Nov. 22. Sony's new console will have many different exclusives available at launch, including Killzone Shadow Fall and Knack. The PlayStation 4 costs $399, which is $100 less than the Xbox One, but $100 more than Nintendo's Wii U.
