HTC's mid-level variant of its flagship phone, the One Mini, is a little over a month old, having landed in Europe in August, but the smartphone is already the recipient of a rather hefty update.
HTC is currently pushing out firmware v1.32.401.2 to One Minis over the air, according to several reports. The update weighs in at 214MB, meaning you'll want to be tethered to a Wi-Fi connection and have a charged phone for this one. As with all over the air updates, not everybody will receive the firmware at the same time, with some batches getting it before others.
While it is rather substantive, it's important to note that update v1.32.401.2 does not bump the Android version from Android 4.2.2 to Android 4.3. Instead, the changes can be found elsewhere.
The changelog for the software states the download brings stability improvements for the cameras, microphones and USB tethering, as well as a boost to overall system performance. Arne Hess from The Unwired was able to confirm with HTC that those are the only changes and there's no other fixes or features lurking under the hood.
HTC One Mini owners interested in knowing when their handset might receive Android 4.3 will have to wait and see when the One Mini's bigger, more famous cousin, the One, will get its Android 4.3 update. The HTC One is currently slated to begin receiving Android 4.3 in October, and if that's the case, then the HTC One Mini would most likely not see Android 4.3 until next year. It's also important to remember that Android 4.4 Kit Kat is tipped to roll out mid-October.
