Samsung Galaxy S2 owners: it looks like it's the end of the line. Samsung has not released an official obituary, but the chances of the Galaxy S2 getting another Android update are slim to none now that Samsung has announced it will be focusing its efforts on Android 4.3 upgrades.
The Samsung Galaxy S2 helped kickstart Samsung's current run of success, and while it is 2 years old, Samsung hinted it would continue to support the device. Sadly, after Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, things got hazy, with Samsung wavering between Android 4.1.2, Android 4.2.2, and now, Android 4.3. In early September, the South Korean electronics manufacturer stated that it would be scrapping Android 4.2.2 for newer flagships such as the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2, and instead release Android 4.3 in the coming months. What this essentially means is that Samsung isn't interested in developing Android 4.2.2 anymore, and that means the death of the Galaxy S2.
This isn't the first we've heard of the Galaxy S2 Android update being scrapped. A summer rumor stated that Samsung might have scrapped Android 4.2.2 for the Galaxy S2 completely. While the reasons were unclear, most big money was on the fact that Samsung was experiencing problems in porting over the new Galaxy S4-inspired TouchWiz interface over to the Galaxy S2's older infrastructure. If Android 4.2.2 was too hard to port, then it's probably safe to say Samsung won't be trying again with Android 4.3.
Still, nothing's set in stone, and Samsung could very well surprise everybody — what do you think? Let us know in the comments section below if you plan on still sticking with your Galaxy S2.
