While nothing official has been announced, a mysterious LG handset that's been popping up recently has been labeled the next Google-branded Nexus handset, the Nexus 5. Lucky for us, it shouldn't be too long until the rumors are confirmed, as a new report indicates the Nexus 5 could release in October.
According to a DigiTimes report, the Google Nexus 5 will release October 2013, and feature Android 4.4 KitKat. The phone will apparently be aimed at the "mid-range segment" and sport specs similar to the LG G2, which has a 5-inch 1080p Full HD display, a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor and LTE support. Although the report is unconfirmed, the details do line up with previous whispers about the device.
Website Ausdroid recently received a tip stating that Google will unveil the Nexus 5 alongside Android 4.4 KitKat at an event Oct. 14. An LG smartphone was also spotted passing through the FCC, with specs and an aesthetic in line with other Nexus 5 leaks. Once again, however, neither Google nor LG have officially announced anything so be sure to take it all in with a grain of salt until the Mountain View search giant sends out the invites.
There's no telling what price point Google will decide to market this device, although it should be sold unlocked through Google Play and will probably inherit the pricing structure of the successful Nexus 4, which recently completely sold out.
