Good news for all you Apple fans. As Apple gears up for an imminent iPhone 5 launch, the Cupertino company has decided to price match Sprint, and offer the iPhone 4S for a cheaper price.
Sprint is currently offering a $50 discount on the iPhone 4S and Apple has generously offered to match it. This would make the iPhone 4S $150 for the 16GB model with a standard two-year contract. This is not an advertised deal, however, and to get the price match, you will have to specifically ask an Apple store employee for it.
iPhone sales have slumped recently due to the success of rival Samsung's Galaxy S3 smartphone and because people are simply holding out for the iPhone 5. Apple is supposed to reveal the iPhone 5, and iPad Mini, and new iPods at an announcement on September 12. Some websites have the release date as early as September 21, while others believe that an October release date is most likely.
iPhone sales have usually slumped before a new model is announced. Apple's execs are not happy about that, blaming the low results against Samsung in the second quarter on the incessant rumor mill which has people excited, if not overexcited about the iPhone 5. The price drop shows that Apple is intent on moving the iPhone 4S, and hopefully clearing up some shelf space for the next-gen iPhone.
The iPhone 5 is expected to be the biggest redesign to the iPhone series in a few years. It should finally support 4G LTE networks, come with a bigger 4-inch screen, and have NFC capabilities.
