Google's new Nexus 7 tablet has had a warm reception out of the gate, and while the tablet is already running the latest version of Android, Google has released a brand new software update for the Wi-Fi model that's now available for download.
The update, JSS15R, weighs a mere 8MB and is not accompanied by a changelog, leading to much speculation about what it could possibly contain. At 8MB, it's hard to see any new exciting features crammed in (there have also been no reports of any new functions), but it is possible that Google is attempting to address some coding bugs that plague the Nexus 7.
It wasn't long after the Nexus 7 launched that users began complaining of some problems with the touchscreen. It was thought that Google would fix the issue with software update JSS15Q, however, the patch seems to have done next to nothing. Users are still reporting that some Nexus 7 touchscreens are errant, making simple tasks like typing and clicking on the right icon a nightmare.
Given that there is no changelog accompanying JSS15R, some have speculated that this fix is aimed at correcting the touchscreen problem. There is no confirmation of this, and it's still incredibly fresh, so we'll probably have to wait for more Nexus 7 owners to report what exactly JSS15R brings to the table.
In other Nexus 7 update news, if the rumored Oct. 14 reveal date for the Nexus 5 smartphone and Android 4.4. KitKat is true, the Nexus 7 tablet can expect Android 4.4 soon after. Google typically pushes out a new Android version to all of its Nexus devices within a week (at least in the United States), and most Nexus devices should have Android 4.4 by the end of October/beginning of November.
