While Amazon Instant Video is still not available as a native Apple TV app, the way that HBO GO and Netflix are, Amazon just made it possible for iOS users to stream their Amazon Instant Video content to the Apple TV anyway.
A new update to Amazon's Instant Video app on iOS supports AirPlay, Apple's screen mirroring application that connects iOS devices to the Apple TV. Apple TV users that own an iPad or iPhone (or the latest iPod Touch) and subscribe to Amazon Prime will be able to stream Amazon's over 40,000 Netflix-style streaming movies and TV shows, as well as well as tens of thousands more titles that you can rent or buy instantly.
Amazon also extended support for better IMDB integration in its Instant Video app, giving customers more cast and director information, along with ratings, trivia, quotes and reviews, according to TechCrunch.
Apple TV owners who have been patiently waiting for Apple to extend support to various apps are slowly getting what they wanted. In recent months, Apple added HBO GO, WatchESPN, Disney, and Vevo apps to Apple TV, along with other apps for different markets. Later Apple added a Time Warner TV app, the first time Apple TV has supported live TV broadcasts (though users still have to subscribe to Time Warner Cable and the Apple TV app has been seen as unintuitive and is currently rated only two stars on the iTunes app store). And it's not out of the question that Apple TV might eventually add an Amazon Instant Video app, now that Amazon has introduced AirPlay support anyway.
