After months of speculation, it's finally going to be a reality: the Google-branded LG Nexus 5 smartphone is officially on its way. The device is expected to make its debut in October, but a new video showing off the handset in the wild has already hit the technosphere.
Thanks to an unnamed tipster, website 9to5Google seems to have gotten its hands on a few images and videos of a Nexus 5 that was apparently left at a bar by a forgetful Google employee. The images of the Nexus 5 line up with FCC filings and other rumored renders, bolstering the credibility of the pictures. The videos, which can be seen below, mostly show off the Android 4.4 KitKat bootscreen and lockscreen.
By themselves, the videos and images don't paint much of a picture, but when taken into context, a couple things come to light. First off, Android 4.4 is not expected to be a major design overhaul (we'll probably have to wait until Android 5.0 for that). The videos show a similar lockscreen and aesthetic, which could mean a lot of the changes are under the hood. Also, despite initial confusion as to whether Motorola or LG would be developing the Nexus 5, it's become increasingly clear, despite no official confirmation, that LG is the manufacturer.
The Nexus 5 is rumored to be similar to the LG G2 handset, except with a smaller 4.96-inch screen. The smartphone should come equipped with a 1080p display and a quad-core processor clocked at more than 2.0GHz. Most believe that the Nexus 5 will be unveiled alongside Android 4.4 KitKat Oct.14, and release through Google Play soon after.
