After the Festival rush the Weinstein Company has released the first trailer to the highly anticipated "Grace of Monaco."
The film, starring Nicole Kidman and Tim Roth, tells the story of former Hollywood star Grace Kelly's crisis of marriage and identity during a political dispute between Monaco's Prince Rainier III and France's Charles De Gaulle.
The film was expected to premiere at Toronto, but skipped the festival circuit to avoid being overlooked in favor of other major awards contenders. However, the opposite effect has occured as many pundits have forgotten about the film altogether.
Throughout the beginning of the year Kidman was predicted to be a front runner to win best actress at the Academy Awards. However, at the moment many prognosticators believe the actress will have to fight for a spot in the category as it has become one of the most crowded groups in years.
"Grace of Monaco" was directed by "La Vie en Rose" director Oliver Dahan. The fact that Dahan led Marion Cotillard to her Oscar is a good sign for the film and Kidman's possibilities. However, it is important to note that many foreign film directors making their English language film debut have not always gotten the same results as they did in their native country. Such was the case with Oliver Hirshbiegel who directed the Oscar nominee "Downfall," and later directed the terribly received "The Invasion" and "Diana." It also happened to Florian Henckel von Donnermarck whose film "The Lives of Others" won the Oscar for Foreign Film; however, he later went on to do the critical bomb "The Tourist."
"Grace of Monaco" also stars Paz Vega, Derek Jacobi and Frank Langella. The movie will be released on Nov. 27.
