When Google released its Android 4.4 KitKat promo, it let loose more than it thought: a quick look at the new LG Nexus 5. Now there's an unofficial render showing what that Nexus 5 might look like.
The Google Nexus 5 render was created by a reddit user and is certainly not an official image in any sense. However, it is based on the accidentally leaked snapshot we got of the Nexus 5 in the Google video.
That handset has seemingly appeared at the FCC and Bluetooth SIG, giving some possible details on the Google Nexus 5's hardware and specs.
The device under review in those two locations is thought to be the Google Nexus 5 because the back details, including the rounded edges and camera lens location, match the device spotted in the KitKat video (and now in this render).
Those specs include a 2,300 mAh battery, a 4.96-inch display, NFC, Wi-Fi a/b/g/n/ac and Bluetooth 4.0. The possible Google Nexus 5 is also rumored to support wireless charging, according to the FCC filing, and may come with a Snapdragon 800 chipset.
However, according to those specs, the device going through the FCC may not actually be the Google Nexus 5. Those specs, especially the processor and wireless charging capability, make it a good match for the Verizon LG G2.
But the screen size doesn't match the LG G2's 5.2 inches, so we'll have to wait to find out.
One thing that does seem certain is that the Google Nexus 5 is on its way to an announcement and release date, because Google has made the kind of moves you would expect before launching a new Nexus phone.
Google has teased a new operating system, put the "old" Nexus 4 on sale and hasn't restocked it after it sold out.
