After two years of halting experimental runs, Japan's Magnetic Levitation train or the "MagLev" is at it again - and ran a good 310 miles per hour too!
The "MagLev" train, also called L-Zero, floats on superconducting magnets 8 centimeters above its track, says NTDTV. It is said to have a top speed of about 361 miles per hour.
L-Zero made a run again for the very first time in 2 years last August 29 after having its test tracks extended. The original length of the train's test track was 15 miles according to Wired. The new test tracks for L-Zero now measure 26.5 miles in length.
The developer of the train, Central Japan Railway, commonly known as JR Tokai, is looking at a 2027 launch year and a $61.4 billion worth of investment. L-Zero is expected to join an airport line in Shanghai and a low-speed train in Nagoya along with other rail systems. In 2045, developers are hoping to extend the line to Osaka.
