Sony Vaio Tap 11 Preview: Specs, Features From Newest Tablet Hybrid

At the IFA trade show in Berlin, Germany Sony has been very busy revealing the future devices and products the company will be releasing. One of the most interesting devices revealed at the event is the Sony Vaio Tap 11, the company's latest tablet/laptop hybrid.

The Sony Vaio Tap 11 will run on Windows 8, according to CNET, and like other similar devices it will feature a touchscreen, stylus, Intel Core-i processor and a detachable keyboard and cover. The device will also have some features that other similar tablets do not have, such as NFC support and an adjustable stand for standing the device up while in use.

For the design of the Vaio Tap 11, Sony has taken a cue from other devices in their roster. The Vaio Tap 11 looks very similar to a Xperia device, with rounded corners and a circular power button. In fact, it looks very much like a Xperia Z Ultra, the new phablet from Sony. The 11-inch display found on the device is covered by a wide bezel for gripping the device. As for the actual display, Triluminos technology will help make the colors pop on the screen. Only the Windows button is found on front of the device, as the rest of the buttons such as the volume controls, power button, and microphone/headset jack are on the right side of the device. Tucked away at the top of is the microSD slot, and on the left users will find the USB 3.0 port, micro-HDMI connector, and the digital stylus. The stylus holder can detach from the device, and the stylus itself will be powered by an AAAA battery.

As for the specs, users can choose between a 1.5GHz Intel Core i5-4210Y processor and a 1.7GHz Core i7-4610Y processor. The Vaio Tap 11 offers 4GB of RAM with 128GB of storage. The battery is reported to last around five hours, which considering this is supposed to be a mobile device is rather surprising.

It is unknown when the Sony Vaio Tap 11 will be available in the United States, but the device will begin shipping out the Asia and Pacific markets by the end of September.
