Floyd 'Money' Mayweather Jr. is living up to his moniker once again. According to Forbes Magazine, the undefeated American boxer is reportedly set to pocket $41.5 million for his upcoming showdown with Mexican light middleweight kingpin Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez on September 14 at MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Money May's paycheck account continued to get fatter as he looks to break the record he previously set when he earned $32 million fight purse in his last two fights against Miguel Cotto and Robert Guerrero.
According to Leonard Ellerbe, Mayweather will collect the cash right after his bout with Canelo - no matter what will happen - and wait for few days to see how much share he will have from the Pay-Per-View sales.
The Mayweather-Alvarez 'The One' showdown is expected to shatter pay-per-view revenue record with pricing set at $70 on average cost and $74.95 for the HD telecast on Showtime PPV. Golden Boy Promotions honcho Richard Schaefer is projecting pay-per-view buys of 2 million to as high as 2.6 million.
"I have 2.6 million [PPV buys] in my mind. Records are meant to be broken," said Schaefer, whose company is co-promoting the light middleweight showdown.
Aside from the pay-per-view business, 'the One' has also broken the record for the biggest receipt ever at $19.1 million. The figure smashed the previous ticket sales high of $18.5 million set by the epic 12-round contest between Oscar De La Hoya and Mayweather Jr. in 2007.
"Ticket sales are an indicator of pay-per-view sales with every fight," Schaefer told Forbes. If that trend holds, this fight is going to be a PPV blockbuster."
With this development, Mayweather further solidified himself as boxing's biggest draw for racking up roughly $100 million in one year. Moreover, the Grand Rapids native is all set to gain more money at least in the next two years as he tries to finish the remainder of his landmark six-fight deal with Showtime Boxing.
