Nokia Lumia 1020 Release Date in Australia: 41MP Windows Phone 8 Camera Phone to Telstra on Sept. 17, Optus in October [Video]

The Nokia Lumia 1020 Windows Phone 8 smartphone is set to arrive in Australia this month.

According to Nokia, the Lumia 1020 will be on sale with mobile carrier Telstra and major retailers starting Sept. 17 with a suggested retail price of AUD $899.

The Australian suggested retail price is approximately $822 when converted to the U.S. dollar.

"The Lumia range has been a great success with our customers so far and we expect they will welcome the arrival of the Nokia Lumia 1020," said Telsta's Device Management Director Andrew Volard. "By teaming its razor sharp camera with Telstra's superfast 4G network, budding photographers will find it easier than ever to take high-quality pictures and share them faster in more places with the Lumia 1020."

The Lumia 1020 will also be available with carrier Optus on Oct. 1.

"Every year, Australians take millions of photos with their phones to record important life events. All too often the pictures are grainy, dark or blurry," said Nokia Australia's Managing Director Steve Lewis. "We want to show people that they no longer have to compromise on image quality. The Lumia 1020 is without doubt the best imaging smartphone on the market today. We are continuing our commitment to deliver benchmark experiences in photography,"

Telstra and Optus, however, will only sell the black model of the Lumia 1020.

Retailer Harvey Norman will provide more variety with the Windows Phone 8 smartphone as it will also sell the white and yellow models of the Lumia 1020. The Nokia Camera Grip will be available at Harvey Norman in October as well with a suggested retail price of AUD $89.95.

Allphones and Dick Smith will offer the black and yellow Lumia 1020 models.

The Lumia 1020's features include a 4.5-inch screen with 1,280x768 pixels covered in Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The new Windows Phone 8 device has 32GB of internal storage for 2GB of RAM. The device includes a front-facing camera with 1.2 megapixels, and also packs a 2,000mAh battery.
